Every year there are Dickens weeks in Broadstairs and Rochester in Kent.
There is one in the summer in Broadstairs and one in the summer and also Christmas in Rochester.
I have been the character Marley’s Ghost from Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol for over 20 years. The original costume used hosepipe for the chains and a lab coat for the jacket. The chains are now replaced by plastic chains, but the end remains as real chain so as to rattle along the roads in the processions. One year the chains were supported by fine fishing line so they were suspended and floating in the air. This costume always causes great laughter and amazement by all, but especially by children, the elderly and those from other countries.
The following photographs (copyright Samuel Pearce) were taken of Marley’s Ghost walking around Broadstairs.
