Dead Donkey Lane
Many people, as children, had donkey rides on the beach. Every day a man brought his donkeys down a small lane to the beach. This lane became known as Donkey Lane until finally, as the years went by it was given the name Dead Donkey Lane for reasons that will be found in this fictional story.
The Eggstraordinary Easter Egg
Many of us like to eat chocolate Easter eggs at Easter. The supermarkets have them piled up by the entrance and on the shelves inside. This story is about an egg, but not a chocolate one. One that was much bigger than any bird’s eggs today. It was found by a boy one morning in his garden. Nobody knew where it came from, what it actually was and more importantly what was inside it.
A Googolplex of Mice
You’ve probably seen films on pest control where hundreds of mice are found living in a barn. The pest controller lifts up a board and out they scuttle in all directions. Well this story is about mice, more than one could ever imagine or count that take over a village and cause chaos.
The China Blackbird
This fictional story was written in winter. Not like a normal winter. Rain, when it landed quickly, froze and ice completely covered the roads and anything in sight. This affected every living creature, some more than others including birds and in this case a blackbird.
Beware of Cucumbers,Apples and Pigs
Evolution templates were inexhaustible. Different themes had been tried at different times. Some forms disappeared, and some remained. Others were wiped out by natural disasters, environmental changes or population explosions.
This story began in the sea where the relatives of the holothurians, sea cucumbers and apples, still exist today. In the past with the higher levels of oxygen in the air size could be big and evolutionary experiments in the sea were often more successful than on land. Creatures from the past, if they existed today, could cause chaos. This story is such a case where man’s endeavour to search for minerals in new environments releases creatures from the past and a new threat to human existence itself.
Mrs Light and Mr Dark
All of us depend on Mrs Light for our existence. Mr Dark does not get a look in, although he was more common in the past. This story looks at the constant relationship of Mrs Light and Mr Dark and what happened when Mrs Light left for good.
Little Mary
Little Mary lived with her mother and father at the edge of a small wood. She was small for her age, had high cheek bones and always had beautiful smiles for everyone. Like all children she had good and bad qualities. Not far away was a busy town where a lot of poor people such as Mary’s family tried to scrape a living. Disease always surrounded poverty and this family would suffer losses that were irreplaceable and unreconcilable.
A Pocket full of Starfish
In rough seas or icy weather, one may find hundreds of starfish washed up on shore. In many cases many die but some may recover enough to survive until the tide returns or before the sea gulls eat them. This story is about a boy who collected these starfish as he thought they may survive but little did he know the consequences of having a pocket full of starfish.
Screaming Alley
During Napoleonic times there were many garrisons placed around the English Channel to prevent invasion by the French. One gun emplacement was based close to the cliff edge and overlooking the right side of the harbour. During this time a situation occurred which is commemorated today by naming an alley close to the gun emplacement, ‘Screaming Alley.’ It is believed that even today if you go there at night the screams still echo down this alley
A Call from Under the Sea
In legend there have always been sea witches linked to storms at sea and taking down drowned humans into their world. This story is about a man who jumps into the sea to retrieve his mobile phone and is dragged into a large cavern where two other witches lie in wait. What is his fate? Will he escape or become just another source of food for the three witches? One can have a sedentary life on the shore but not so under the sea.
